Spring Mini Sessions: April 11-12, 2008

Do you need updated portraits or gifts for  Mother's Day, Father's Day, Grandparent's Day? This April I will be hosting a two-day mini session event in the studio.  Please view the following page for more details.

There are two different packages to select from and you can choose to have the focus be on whatever you want (baby, children, family, mommy and me... Whatever your 25 time allotment allows for).

To book a session, call 905-999-4278/email the studio beginning March 24. The studio will be closed from March 14-24 and I will not be answering any phone calls or emails during this time. All inquiries will be answered on the 24.

If you are a past client, be sure to look at the Accordion Album promotion for the month of April. These leather albums make great gifts for grandparents, moms and dads.

Fine Art Photography? What is It?

Choosing who will take your one-of-a-kind portraits is an important decision. Ultimately you are investing into artwork for your home.

For me, a fine art photographer is a skilled ARTIST who captures images with a unique eye. This photographer does not follow a list of scripted shots and poses to fill requirements. A fine art photographer can be trained technically, but the creative part is innate and goes hand and hand with the way they see the world. This photographer is a true artist who gives every client a custom photography experience. This artist creates in inspiration to the emotions and connections she feels with her subjects.

I came across two interesting articles that I think really speak about 1. The value in choosing a fine art (custom) photographer and 2. Really break down how this artist invests in your session.  With any product or service there are different levels of service or standards. I choose to offer my clients the highest level of service because of my love for art. I want every client to walk away with genuine masterpieces for their home. For me, art is about inspiring, bringing about emotions and connections.

Studio vs On-Location

I do offer both services so depending on what your overall goal is, one may be better suited for your session. Ontario tends to have grey winters and depending on your home, light can be tricky. However, I know where to look for the sweet spots of light so we may just have to move a few things out of the frame. No worries - I will pay no attention to the basket of laundry and the breakfast dishes on the counter. I understand your time is better spent being a parent and the day-to-day chores are for later.

On location in your home gives more of a modern  "lifestyle" look - this is a look that incorporates elements of your home, your children's toys/favorites, a family interacting naturally on the couch, cuddling in the parents bed, kids taking a bath or making cookies. It can also mimic the studio, using bare walls to create a simple backdrop.

Love is

Happy Valentine's Day.
As promised I have posted a slideshow of the mini sessions. You may also notice that the website has gotten a makeover. I'm working on updating the galleries so keep an eye out for some new images.

In the meantime here are a couple from this week. These two babes got quite cozy and snoozed off for a while (just how I like them).

It pays to shop early

Here are a couple of  reasons why it pays off to shop early:

1. Anyone who subscribes to the blog is among the first to know about limited edition sessions or announcements. Within a night of posting the Boutique Mini's half of the spots were gone. Last time I checked, there were only a couple remaining so we decided to extend the day until 4. I anticipate these will be gone quickly.

2. This month, there have been many inquiries for newborn and maternity photography. As much as I try to rearrange my schedule, it isn't always possible. If you think you may want a session with me, inquire early. There is such a short timeframe to photograph those folded, curled up, sleepy, squishy newborns. If you wait until after the baby arrives, you may be disappointed and without an available photographer or the baby may just be too mature to capture those poses unique to newborns.  Likewise, plan your pregnancy photos in advance. Trust me when I say you do not want to leave it too long. You may deliver earlier than your due date or you may just not be feeling your best.
